The Bayan Obo mine in Inner Mongolia is the home to world's largest deposit of 'rare earth' and the world's largest mine for rare earth, that produces some 70% of the world's rare earth. Rare earths are a class of 17 elements essential for high tech industrial purposes from hard-discs to smart bombs and are essential for most green technology such as wind turbines and re-chargable car batteries.
